Neurophonetics and translational Neurorehabilitation

About us

The work group Neurophonetics and Translational Neurorehabilitation is based on a cooperation between the Universitäty of Tübingen and a neurological rehabilitation clinic (Fachkliniken Hohenurach). The scientific focus of this group is the neurobiology of speech communication, comprising clinical studies, psycholinguistic experiments, and neuroimaging. One major aspect of Neurophonetics is the attempt to build up an outline or model of the "speech processing network" in the brain, including articulatory motor control, auditory-phonetic perception, and superordinate processing of abstract phonological and lexical-semantic representations. The spectrum of methods includes acoustic signal processing, kinematic analysis of speech artikulation, functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetoenzephalography (MEG), and transcranial magnetic  stimulation (TMS). A particular topic of this group is the neuroplasticity in speech perception of blind subjects using ultra-fast synthetic text-to-speech for the purpose of text reception.
